Museum Quality Archival Prints

Images in The World Press Photo Print Sale are printed using top of the line archival materials that will stand the test of time. These ain’t no crummy inkjet prints, baby!

Color images are printed on Fuji Crystal DP II Matte paper.

This premium Fuji photo paper is a leading choice for gallery prints. It has an extremely wide color gamut, and is guaranteed non-fading for at least 75 years. Printing on Fuji Crystal DP II Matte involves exposing the paper to a digital laser in a controlled, dark environment, activating the paper’s silver halide crystals before chemical development to create the final print.

Black & White images are printed on Ilford B/W matte paper.

This panchromatic black and white paper from the iconic Ilford brand is highly sensitive and enriched with optical brighteners, allowing white tones to shine while the great range of black hues creates enchanting depths. Images are converted into photographic negatives, which are exposed onto the light-sensitive paper using a laser. The exposed paper is then developed chemically in a darkroom to produce a traditional silver gelatin print, resulting in a permanent, archival image with rich blacks and clear highlights.

Prints are priced at $180 USD unframed and $300 USD framed.

Here’s a few of my favorite images from the sale:

Ieisha Evans (27) stands her ground at a rally against police violence against Black men, outside the Baton Rouge Police Department in Louisiana, USA, on 9 July 2016.

Evans had travelled to Baton Rouge to protest the death of Alton Sterling, who was shot at close range while being held to the ground by two white police officers on 5 July. The fatal shooting of Sterling came at a time of heightened tension in the US over the deaths of Black men at the hands of the police.

Data collected by The Counted, an initiative set up by The Guardian to record such fatalities, found that in 2016, Black males aged 15-34 were nine times more likely than other Americans to be killed by law enforcement officers.

Evans was arrested at the protest, but released later that evening.

A massive shelf cloud moves towards Bondi Beach, Australia, on 6 November 2015.

The cloud was part of a weather front that brought violent thunderstorms, with local media reporting damaging winds, hailstones the size of golf balls, and heavy rainfall. Shelf clouds are low cloud banks often with smooth or layered surfaces, and black, turbulent bases.

In close collaboration with the family, the photographer tells the story of Jiuer, a young mother of three in northern China who gains more understanding and appreciation for life in her final years after being diagnosed with cancer. Before her surgery, Jiuer invited the photographer to take some family photos, and later, when her condition deteriorated, asked her to record the time she spent with her children.

Jiuer passed away in 2022, but her presence lives on in her family’s memories.

You can’t really think of a print sale without thinking of the Magnum Square Print Sale. But the World Press Photo Print Sale ups the game with full size prints that you can actually see from across the room!

The sale includes many iconic images and part of the proceeds go directly to the photojournalists themselves. So you’re not just hoarding prints.. You’re supporting the art form!

Certainly, there are many great images! But my favorite is Jonathan Bachman’s amazing image of Ieisha Evans. The nearly balletic posture of the cops stands in stark contrast to Ieisha’s stoic and passive resistance to create a truly memorable image.

I like it!
